On Reserve...Rare and Desirable Sam Kramer Taxidermy Eye Brooch, Modernist Studio Silver
On Reserve.
This rare and desirable brooch was made circa 1950 in Greenwich Village by one of the most well known studio jewelers of that time: Sam Kramer. Out of his 8th Street studio he made a limited run of designs that incorporated taxidermy eyes which provided the desired effect of slightly surreal, and definitely wacky. So artistically done this particular design has such a visual appeal that leaves you wondering what it is and then wishing you could at least briefly go back in time to that oh-so-hip era. Any mid-century jewelry collector dreams of rounding out their collection with a piece by the likes of Art Smith, Betty Cooke and Sam Kramer. This is a rare opportunity to acquire not only a “Sam Kramer” but a highly collectible one and without the stress of being the highest bidder!
The brooch measures roughly 2” by 1-5/8”. And the complete set of hallmarks are crisp and clear on the back below the pin.
