Phenomenal 19th Century Silver and Paste Brooch
This oversized 19th century paste brooch is just as exquisite as it is rare. Dozens of glittering white paste stones are set as meticulously as diamonds into sterling silver. The large emerald green stones are set with contoured bezels and their backs completely exposed. This allows the light to filter through from behind, illuminating the artistic garden-like striations in the glass. The measurement across the top is an impressive 3-1/8”. The length from the center at the top to the bottom of the curve is 2”. The pin mechanism on the back measures 2-1/8” from the hinge to the clasp and it holds surprisingly well when the tip is secure behind the original C catch. With antique paste jewelry being so popular this large, colorful and immaculately preserved example is not only simply desirable but it stands a good chance to be the “crown jewel” of any paste collection.
