Such a rare and exciting find! This late 1920s/early 1930s duette is not only a stunning, book-worthy Art Deco design but it’s fabricated in solid 18k gold, sterling silver and diamonds! I’m a sucker for convertible jewelry that can be worn in various ways so duettes have always won me over. If you’re unfamiliar, duettes are designed to be worn either as a large brooch or disassembled to wear as two matching dress clips. The actual clip mechanism on the back of each slides easily onto a separate pin element that holds them side by side when wearing as a brooch. So conversely when you choose to wear them as clips they simply slide out from the center of the pin element. From left to right, when together as a brooch, the length is 4”. The widest point, at the center, measures approximately 1-1/2”. When separated as clips, each clip then measures 1-1/2 wide by 2” long. The actual pin itself measures 1-1/2” from the hinge to the French style tube clasp. There are 202 diamonds in total consisting primarily of rose cuts but also including two larger old mine cuts and ten baguette cuts. I can’t say enough about how much I love this piece. For me it’s everything jewelry is meant to be: beautiful design, wearable function, thoughtful construction and the bonus here is the choice that was made to use fine materials. It’s a winner in every sense!
