This solid gold Victorian hinged bangle features the most elaborate black taille d’epargne enameling. The design motif reflects the late 19th century fascination with Asian arts and culture, an aesthetic movement known as Orientalism. A discreet hinge divides the bangle into two halves. One half depicting small butterflies, bamboo branches and fans while the other half displays delicate blossoming vines. The decoration on each side perfectly complimenting the other. Enhancing the overall beauty is the finely etched surface of the entire bracelet and the subtle geometric borders that continue along the top and bottom edges. The size is petite measuring 2-1/4” from hinge to clasp and 1-3/4” high. The best fit will be on a wrist that measures between 5-1/2” and 6-1/2”. The width of the bangle is 3/8” and there is a 2-3/4” long safety chain in place for added security. This bracelet dates to around 1890-1900 and is in near mint condition.
