Circa 1900 Old European Cut Diamond Ring
This extraordinary ring has such a presence. It was crafted around the turn of the century, during the Victorian era, and is solid 14k gold. It is a gypsy style setting which features a low-set, glittering +/- .40ct Old European cut diamond. The color and clarity have been estimated as G-H (near colorless) and I. The diamond is extremely brilliant with only one carbon inclusion that is disguised almost completely by the skill of the cutter. The mounting has simple, hand carved foliate details that have softened beautifully over the years. On the inside of the ring, on either side of the diamond, are hand engraved the names John and Lillie...a very sweet glimpse into the ring's past. The gold has a striking brightness and a significant weight. At the widest point, north and south around the diamond, the ring measures 7.5mm. It tapers very gradually to 3.5mm wide at the base of the shank. Currently the measurement is about an 8-1/4 on the mandrel. Sizing up or down is possible upon request. However if your finger is much smaller than a size 5-1/2 please contact me first. I'd just want to confirm the capability of making it that small. This is a very wonderful antique ring that would make a gorgeous, untraditional engagement ring!
