Edwardian Old Mine Cut Diamond Pavé Ring, Circa 1920
This Edwardian beauty combines platinum, 14k yellow gold and seven pavé set Old Mine cut diamonds. The details throughout are exceptional, worthy of a studied look. The diamonds, contained in a platinum octagonal shape, are bead set so precisely and are so very well matched, that they give the impression of being one large stone. Around the sides, reaching up towards the diamonds, the yellow gold is etched and pierced in a wonderful design. The positive and negative space, the reflected light and shadow, act as a kind of stage to support the group of glittery diamonds above. The shank is a perfect continuation of the etched design which completes the look on all sides. Overall, just a beautiful little antique ring with so many thoughtful details. North to south across the head is 8.5mm, east to west measures 9mm and the highest surface above your finger is 6mm. The shank is 2mm at the shoulders and tapers to 1mm at the base. Currently a size 5-1/2 and sizable upon request.
