This remarkably white and fiery antique cushion cut diamond is one of the prettiest I've seen! A diamond of this caliber, so clear and bright, benefits greatly from a setting like this circa 1900 buttercup style that allows it to do what diamonds do so well. This is because the way in which the gold petals scallop out and away from the stone leaves the diamond almost entirely exposed to light. The result of this very open setting is a constant and brilliant display of sparkle. Furthermore, the light source reflects beautifully on the concave surfaces of each petal creating a gorgeous sense of depth and an interesting contrast of light and dark areas. In the end, the diamond appears even larger than it's +/- .35ct and very much alive. The color and clarity are estimated as F and VS1. There are no maker's marks or hallmarks yet the gold does test appropriately for 14k. The buttercup itself measures 9mm north to south and 8mm east to west. It indeed rises up like a little flower 6mm from your finger to the table of the diamond. The simple 2mm shank tapers in gracefully where it meets the sides of the flower. Currently the ring measures as a 5-1/4 on the mandrel and can be sized up or down upon request. This ring would make a wonderful choice as an unconventional, antique engagement ring! However, it's also just the kind of ring you could wear casually, on any finger, just because you like it!
