C 1930 Art Deco Engagement Ring with Old Mine Cut Diamond
What a dreamy ring! Set proudly in an Art Deco 18k filigree mounting is a gorgeous, glittering .72ct Old Mine cut diamond. It’s a remarkably clean VS1 with a color grade ranging from J to K. A good description of its color is a beautiful steely, light gray pigment that will appear white in natural light. The cut has all the lovable characteristics of an Old Mine diamond such as a high crown and faceted culet. The brilliance of this stone is rather remarkable in bright light or dim light. In fact this cut is sometimes referred to as “candlelight” as that was the primary light source in that era (mid to late-1800s). The faceting was therefore designed for optimal performance in candlelight. Yet our modern indoor lighting does wonders as well! The main stone is perfectly accented with two .03ct diamonds, one on each shoulder. The filigree is clean and rather simple with a 1930s-appropriate geometric design. The ring sits comfortably on your finger with a relatively low profile measuring 6 mm high to the table of the diamond. The measurement north to south on center is 9 mm and tapers gradually to the shank which measures 1.5 mm all the way around. Currently the ring measures as a size 5-1/4 and can be sized up or down as needed.
